The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has inspected the Covid-19 rapid test process at a number of airports across the country.
The agency found there were still difficulties in implementing the quick test process for passengers entering Vietnam by air.
The declaration forms for the SARS-CoV-2 quick test, the testing result certifications and the receipts are only available in Vietnamese. CAAV has asked the Airports Corporation of Vietnam and Van Don International Airport to coordinate with the airport authority and relevant agencies to provide these documents in both Vietnamese and English.
These agencies need to coordinate with health authorities at the airport to carry out rapid testing for all passengers (passengers arriving and traveling through countries where new Covid cases with the new Omicron variant have been detected) upon their entry into Vietnam.
Air carriers have to coordinate with international airports and the airport authority to work with health authorities to handle positive cases detected by quick tests to avoid congestion at the terminal area, especially in the area where SARS-CoV-2 testing is performed.
CAAV also required the airport authorities to announce these regulations to all airlines planning to operate international flights to Vietnam.
In the latest report sent to the Ministry of Transport, CAAV said that in the first three days of restoring international passenger flights to Vietnam, 17 flights were carried out with 1,753 passengers entering Vietnam through four international airports – Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, Da Nang and Can Tho.
On December 31, the agency sent a document to the aviation authority of Taipei (China) to agree with the partner’s proposal that each side be allowed to operate passenger flights with a frequency of five flights per week.
On January 4, the aviation authorities of Taipei issued a document designating three airlines to operate flights between Taipei and Hanoi/HCMC, namely China Airlines and Eva Air and Starlux Airlines.
On December 31, 2021, the Korean Aviation Administration agreed with Vietnam’s proposal to operate four flights per week for each side to carry passengers from Korea to Vietnam. However, Korea wants to increase it to 6 flights per week. For flights from Vietnam, the agency said that according to regulations on epidemic prevention, Korea is restricting incoming passenger flights, so it proposed granting only two flights per week for Vietnamese airlines and up to 21 flights per week for Korean carriers.
The frequency of regular international routes to France, Germany, the UK, and Russia could be expanded to 10 flights per week for one-way tickets applicable to all airlines of each side for each respective market.
