Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has commenced his visit to the United States after arriving in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.

PM Chinh and his high-ranking delegation landed at Joint Base Andrews in Washington, D.C. at 1:45 am on Wednesday (local time).

The Vietnamese leader was welcomed at the airbase by U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper, Vietnamese Ambassador to the U.S. Nguyen Quoc Dung, and officials from the Embassy of Vietnam in the U.S..

The premier is scheduled to meet U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Senator Patrick Leahy, and several other lawmakers on Wednesday.

On the afternoon of the same day, he will deliver a speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), before receiving leaders of the World Bank and U.S. corporations including ASIA Group, Blackstone, GenX, and AES.

On Thursday and Friday, PM Chinh and leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries will attend a special summit marking the 45th anniversary of the ASEAN – U.S. diplomatic relations.

PM Chinh will also have sessions at the United Nations during his trip lasting until May 17.
