Vietnam’s daily coronavirus count tops 26,000

Vietnam’s Ministry of Health logged 26,032 new COVID-19 patients throughout the country on Thursday, together with 9,992 recoveries and 74 virus-related deaths.

The newest cases, including nine imported and 26,023 domestic transmissions, were detected in 61 provinces and cities, the health ministry said, elaborating that 8,264 were infected in the community.

Hanoi recorded 2,887 of the latest local cases, Nghe An Province 1,749, Hai Phong City 1,366, Hai Duong Province 1,329, Nam Dinh Province 1,189, Bac Ninh Province 1,079, Hoa Binh Province 1,073, Thanh Hoa Province 996, Da Nang 939, Bac Giang Province 876, Thai Nguyen Province 735, Ninh Binh Province 715, Quang Nam Province 490, Quang Binh Province 468, Quang Ninh Province 424, Lam Dong Province 365, Dak Lak Province 287, Thua Thien-Hue Province 246, Khanh Hoa Province 244, Ho Chi Minh City 241, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 187, Binh Thuan Province 80, and Can Tho City 19.

Vietnam had reported 23,953 locally-transmitted infections on Wednesday.

The country has confirmed 2,423,553 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Upwards of 2.2 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Ho Chi Minh City has been heavily affected with 515,109 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 292,848, Hanoi with 159,937, Dong Nai Province with 100,002, Tay Ninh Province with 88,659, Ca Mau Province 57,162, Binh Phuoc Province 48,030, Dong Thap Province with 47,561, Can Tho City with 44,489, Vinh Long Province 44,500, Long An Province with 41,797, Da Nang with 40,969, An Giang Province with 35,626, Tien Giang Province with 35,388, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 31,647, and Binh Thuan Province with 29,768.

Vietnam documented only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry announced 9,992 hospital discharges on Thursday, lifting the national count to 2,206,594.

The toll has reached 38,688, with 74 virus-linked fatalities added today.

Vietnam has registered 2,430,683 patients in total, including 192 imported and community-based Omicron infections, since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

The Omicron cases consist of 92 in Ho Chi Minh City, 27 in Quang Nam Province, 20 in Quang Ninh Province, 14 in Hanoi, 11 in Khanh Hoa Province, eight in Da Nang, six in Hung Yen Province, four in Kien Giang Province, two in Thanh Hoa Province, two in Hai Duong Province, one in Hai Phong City, one in Long An Province, one in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, one in Binh Duong Province, one in Lam Dong Province, and one in Ninh Binh Province.

Healthcare workers have given over 184 million vaccine doses, including 528,200 shots on Wednesday, since vaccination was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

More than 79.1 million of the country’s 98 million people have received at least one dose while above 74.4 million have been jabbed twice.

The number of third doses – including additional primary shots for immunocompromised people, boosters, and third jabs of Cuba’s Abdala vaccine has surpassed 30.4 million.
