Vietnam reports over 200,000 additional coronavirus cases

Vietnam’s Ministry of Health recorded 202,180 coronavirus infections throughout the nation on Sunday, alongside 65,445 recoveries and 87 virus-associated deaths.

The newest cases, including eight imported and 202,172 domestic transmissions, were discovered in 61 provinces and cities, the health ministry said in a daily report.

Bac Giang and Hoa Binh Provinces reported 65,618 of the latest local cases, including 60,044 found on previous days; Hanoi 29,578; Bac Ninh Province 8,355; Nghe An Province 7,579; Hai Phong City 5,154; Hung Yen Province 3,904; Phu Tho Province 3,694; Binh Duong Province 3,442; Quang Ninh Province 2,959; Ho Chi Minh City 2,879; Dak Lak Province 2,680; Thai Binh Province 2,270; Binh Phuoc Province 2,202; Da Nang 1,972; Ca Mau Province 1,903; Khanh Hoa Province 1,485; Lam Dong Province 925; Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 739; Thua Thien-Hue Province 328; and Can Tho City 116.

Vietnam had documented 173,258 locally-transmitted infections on Saturday.

The country has detected 4,427,225 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Over 2.67 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Ho Chi Minh City tops the list with 550,920 patients, followed by Hanoi with 395,236, Binh Duong Province with 311,860, Bac Ninh Province 143,537, Dong Nai Province with 102,412, Hai Duong Province 97,880, Tay Ninh Province with 94,038, Nghe An Province 90,428, Hai Phong City 80,706, Ca Mau Province 71,656, Binh Phuoc Province 68,766, Da Nang with 66,577, and Can Tho City with 45,889.

Vietnam found only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry logged 65,445 recovered patients on Sunday, elevating the national count to 2,681,447.

The toll has risen to 40,813, with 87 pathogen-linked mortalities added today.

Vietnam has confirmed 4,434,700 patients in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have administered over 197.5 million vaccine doses, including 284,876 shots on Saturday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Above 180.5 million doses have been given to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 70,855,922 first shots, 67,645,331 second doses, 14,213,253 additional primary jabs, and 26,339,818 boosters.

A total of 17,018,498 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,742,674 first doses and 8,275,824 second jabs.
