Vietnam’s Ministry of Health confirmed 8,601 more COVID-19 infections on Thursday, together with 25,094 recoveries and 286 deaths.
The newest cases, including 26 imported and 8,575 domestic transmissions, were detected in 57 provinces and cities, the health ministry said.
Hanoi reported 2,738 of the latest local cases, Thanh Hoa Province 463, Quang Nam Province 356, Hai Duong Province 326, Vinh Phuc Province 257, Hoa Binh Province 212, Lam Dong Province 208, Hai Phong City 154, Bac Ninh Province 144, Ho Chi Minh City 129, Lang Son Province 114, Thua Thien-Hue Province 99, Quang Ninh Province 90, Khanh Hoa Province 69, Ninh Binh Province 51, Binh Thuan Province 27, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 20, and Can Tho City seven.
Vietnam had registered 8,722 locally-transmitted infections on Wednesday.
The country has found 2,297,016 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave erupted on April 27, 2021. Almost 2.1 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.
Ho Chi Minh is on top of the caseload with 514,324 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 292,724, Hanoi with 139,879, Dong Nai Province with 99,917, Tay Ninh Province with 88,405, Ca Mau Province 56,170, Dong Thap Province with 47,401, Binh Phuoc Province 46,483, Can Tho City with 44,390, Vinh Long Province 44,115, Long An Province with 41,701, An Giang Province with 35,558, Tien Giang Province with 35,337, Da Nang with 34,062, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 30,953, and Binh Thuan Province with 29,395.
Vietnam found only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.
The health ministry logged 25,094 recovered patients on Thursday, taking the national count to 2,093,947.
The toll has risen to 38,063, with 286 virus-related deaths recorded since Tuesday and announced today.
Vietnam has documented 2,304,095 patients in total, including 192 imported and community-based Omicron infections, since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.
The Omicron cases consist of 92 in Ho Chi Minh City, 27 in Quang Nam Province, 20 in Quang Ninh Province, 14 in Hanoi, 11 in Khanh Hoa Province, eight in Da Nang, six in Hung Yen Province, four in Kien Giang Province, two in Thanh Hoa Province, two in Hai Duong Province, one in Hai Phong City, one in Long An Province, one in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, one in Binh Duong Province, one in Lam Dong Province, and one in Ninh Binh Province.
Healthcare workers have administered over 181.6 million vaccine doses, including 77,258 shots on Wednesday, since vaccination was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.
Above 79 million of the country’s 98 million people have received at least one dose while over 74.1 million have been jabbed twice.
The number of third doses – including additional primary shots for immunocompromised people, boosters, and third jabs of Cuba’s Abdala vaccine has exceeded 28.3 million.
