Vietnam reports 11,160 new coronavirus infections, 7 deaths

The Ministry of Health recorded 11,160 additional COVID-19 infections in Vietnam on Friday, alongside 2,338 recoveries and seven virus-related deaths.

The newest cases, all local transmissions, were found in 59 provinces and cities, the health ministry said in a daily report, adding that 8,015 contracted the pathogen from the community.

Hanoi reported 980 of the latest domestic cases, Phu Tho Province 761, Bac Giang Province 539, Quang Ninh Province 510, Nghe An Province 489, Gia Lai Province 304, Quang Binh Province 222, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 197, Lam Dong Province 194, Bac Ninh Province 176, Da Nang 126, Ho Chi Minh City 93, Quang Nam Province 70, Binh Duong Province 33, and Can Tho City five.

The Ministry of Health logged 30,574 infections on Thursday.

Vietnam has confirmed 10,536,576 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Above nine million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Hanoi tops the list with 1,538,996 patients, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 607,886, Nghe An Province 424,829, Binh Duong Province with 383,134, Hai Duong Province 359,290, Bac Ninh Province 337,984, Ca Mau Province 149,917, Tay Ninh Province with 136,888, Hai Phong City 119,282, Binh Phuoc Province 117,317, Dong Nai Province with 106,608, Da Nang with 101,141, and Can Tho City with 49,407.

Vietnam documented only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry announced 2,338 recovered patients on Friday, taking the national count to 9,079,265.

The toll has increased to 42,998, with seven pathogen-associated mortalities added today.

Vietnam has detected 10,544,324 cases in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have given upwards of 211 million vaccine doses, including 723,940 shots on Thursday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Over 193.7 million doses have been administered to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 71,426,692 first shots, 68,588,396 second doses, 15,127,284 additional primary jabs, and 37,088,176 boosters.

A combined 17,315,269 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,867,879 first doses and 8,447,390 second jabs.

More than 232,000 doses have been given to children aged 5-11.
