Vietnam records 65,097 more coronavirus infections

The Ministry of Health documented 65,097 new COVID-19 infections throughout Vietnam on Friday, along with 60,609 recoveries and 35 virus-associated fatalities.

The newest cases, including one imported infection, were detected in 62 provinces and cities, the health ministry said in a daily update.

Bac Giang Province logged 27,815 of the latest local cases, including 25,763 found on previous days; Hanoi 2,897; Yen Bai Province 2,115; Nghe An Province 1,891; Dak Lak Province 1,381; Quang Ninh Province 1,187; Hai Duong Province 958; Ha Giang Province 760; Bac Ninh Province 738; Ben Tre Province 533; Ha Tinh Province 490; Da Nang 453; Ho Chi Minh City 443; Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 326; Binh Duong Province 302; Quang Nam Province 249; Khanh Hoa Province 135; and Can Tho City 28.

The Ministry of Health announced 90,228 infections on Thursday.

Vietnam has registered 10,128,047 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. More than 8.45 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Hanoi leads the table with 1,518,081 patients, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 600,480, Nghe An Province 411,990, Binh Duong Province with 380,892, Hai Duong Province 352,073, Bac Ninh Province 333,029, Ca Mau Province 147,619, Tay Ninh Province with 134,024, Hai Phong City 118,165, Binh Phuoc Province 114,684, Dong Nai Province with 106,445, Da Nang with 98,223, and Can Tho City with 49,254.

Vietnam recorded only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry reported 60,609 recovered patients on Friday, lifting the national count to 8,455,675.

The toll has risen to 42,768, with 35 pathogen-linked mortalities added today.

Vietnam has confirmed 10,135,789 cases in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have given upwards of 208 million vaccine doses, including 865,209 shots on Thursday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Over 191 million doses have been administered to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 71,377,951 first shots, 68,474,518 second doses, 15,001,180 additional primary jabs, and 34,669,736 boosters.

A combined 17,215,684 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,818,035 first doses and 8,397,649 second jabs.
