Investigators from Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defense are investigating a fire that occurred at a military material warehouse in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai on Wednesday morning.

Designated agencies have examined the scene of the fire at the K87.X military material depot, managed by the Department of Arms under the ministry’s General Department of Technology in the province’s Ia Grai District, a source told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident happened at 6:00 am the same day, when locals heard some explosions which were followed by a fire at the site.

The fire was not large and caused no casualties but a large amount of smoke generated from the blaze, along with the explosions, frightened residents around the depot.

Immediately after the blast, the provincial government directed the district authorities to coordinate with the Pleiku City administration to evacuate people living near the area to a safe place.

The Fifth Military Region, the Military Procuracy of Pleiku City, and other relevant agencies have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
