Vietnam confirms 55,879 more COVID-19 cases

The Ministry of Health reported 55,879 new coronavirus cases in Vietnam on Tuesday, alongside 10,412 hospital discharges and 77 virus-related fatalities.

The newest cases, including eight imported and 55,871 domestic transmissions, were detected in 62 provinces and cities, the health ministry said, adding that 39,728 were infected in the community.

Hanoi recorded 6,860 of the latest local cases, Bac Ninh Province 2,842, Bac Giang Province 2,500, Hai Duong Province 2,485, Quang Ninh Province 2,087, Hoa Binh Province 2,087, Phu Tho Province 2,084, Lao Cai Province 2,056, Nam Dinh Province 1,943, Vinh Phuc Province 1,811, Hai Phong City 1,798, Ninh Binh Province 1,665, Thai Nguyen Province 1,645, Son La Province 1,494, Nghe An Province 1,441, Ho Chi Minh City 1,352, Hung Yen Province 1,312, Yen Bai Province 1,290, Thai Binh Province 1,282, Khanh Hoa Province 1,213, Quang Nam Province 976, Da Nang 946, Lam Dong Province 630, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 441, Thua Thien-Hue Province 237, Binh Thuan Province 155, Binh Duong Province 132, and Can Tho City 46.

Vietnam had documented 46,861 locally-transmitted infections on Monday.

The country has found 2,882,983 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Upwards of 2.3 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Ho Chi Minh City has been severely affected with 522,142 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 294,271, Hanoi with 210,883, Dong Nai Province with 100,574, Tay Ninh Province with 89,228, Ca Mau Province 58,954, Binh Phuoc Province 51,647, Hai Phong City 55,468, Da Nang with 50,691, Dong Thap Province with 47,891, Vinh Long Province 45,094, Can Tho City with 44,743, Long An Province with 42,008, An Giang Province with 35,789, Tien Giang Province with 35,444, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 34,929, and Binh Thuan Province with 30,838.

Vietnam confirmed only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry declared 10,412 patients recovered on Tuesday, elevating the national count to 2,305,081.

The toll has jumped to 39,682, with 77 pathogen-linked mortalities added today.

Vietnam has registered 2,890,252 patients in total, including 205 imported and community-based Omicron infections, since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have administered almost 192 million vaccine doses, including 327,532 shots on Monday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

More than 175 million doses have been given to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 70,881,550 first shots, 67,300,879 second doses, 13,489,116 additional primary jabs, and 22,110,277 boosters.

A total of 16,764,921 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,611,127 first doses and 8,153,794 second jabs.
