Record 17,017 COVID infections reported on Wednesday, Hà Nội tops 2,500 cases

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam registered a record 17,017 coronavirus infections on Wednesday, as the capital confirmed more than 2,500 daily cases for the first time.

Of the daily caseload, 20 were imported and the rest domestic. There were 12,299 community transmissions.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the country since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1,817,721.

Hà Nội was again the locality with the most number of transmissions across the country, with 2,505.

Other localities reporting new infections were Tây Ninh (862), Hải Phòng (792), Khánh Hòa (782), Bình Định (735), Cà Mau (687), Bình Phước (682), Vĩnh Long (657), Trà Vinh (576), Bến Tre (499), HCm City (448), Bắc Ninh (365), Thanh Hóa (351), Hưng Yên (345), Quảng Ninh (337), Bình Thuận (329), Bạc Liêu (306), Cần Thơ (282), Đắk Lắk (273), Thừa Thiên Huế (260), Đà Nẵng (245), Thái Nguyên (239), Hải Dương (229), Lâm Đồng (228), Hà Giang (227), Quảng Ngãi (215), Kiên Giang (202), Sóc Trăng (196), An Giang (193), Vĩnh Phúc (191), Bắc Giang (187), Quảng Nam (180), Đắk Nông (152), Thái Bình (148), Nam Định (138), Đồng Tháp (137), Phú Yên (136), Lạng Sơn (131), Gia Lai (126), Hòa Bình (121), Nghệ An (109), Tiền Giang (105), Đồng Nai (103), Phú Thọ (99), Sơn La (97), Ninh Bình (85), Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu (81), Hà Nam (75), Quảng Trị (68), Bình Dương (66), Ninh Thuận (51), Bắc Kạn (45), Lào Cai (43), Điện Biên (42), Quảng Bình (41), Hậu Giang (35), Long An (34), Tuyên Quang (30), Yên Bái (27), Cao Bằng (22), Hà Tĩnh (21), Kon Tum (12) and Lai Châu (12).

Việt Nam reported an additional 230 COVID-related deaths, bringing the national death toll from the virus to 33,475.

A total of 22,662 patients were declared fully recovered from COVID-19, with the total number of recoveries increasing to 1,436,046.

Twenty-five cases of the Omicron variant in Việt Nam are being quarantined and monitored.

As of January 5, Việt Nam had administered over 155.1 million doses of vaccine, including more than 69.8 million people receiving two full jabs, and over 7.4 million inoculated with a booster shot. —VNS
