The ongoing frigid weather in northern Vietnam is expected to continue for a few more days as a new cold front will start affecting the region on Tuesday night, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

The existing cold snap has been causing temperatures in northern localities to dip over the past couple of days.

As of Tuesday morning, temperatures were at about 10 degrees Celsius in the Red River Delta and below five degrees Celsius in mountainous areas.

This feels truly cold in tropical Vietnam, where 30 degrees Celsius is the norm.

A new cold spell is moving toward the northern part of the country and is forecast to begin influencing the weather condition in the region on Tuesday night.

From February 22 to 24, the average lows will be at around eight to 11 degrees Celsius in the Red River Delta and three to six degrees Celsius in mountainous locales.

The mercury will drop to below zero degrees Celsius on high mountaintops.

From Quang Binh Province to Thua Thien-Hue Province in central Vietnam, the lowest temperatures will be at 11 to 14 degrees Celsius.

On Monday, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development sent an urgent document to authorities in northern provinces regarding the protection of cattle amid the cold weather.

A brief report by the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on the same day showed that more than 1,000 cows, buffaloes, and other types of cattle had died across northern Vietnam due to the low temperature in the past days.
