More than 16,000 new COVID cases registered on Wednesday, Hà Nội posts record infections

HÀ NỘI — The capital Hà Nội continues to be the nation’s leading coronavirus hotspot, registering nearly four-times more infections than anywhere else in the country on Wednesday with a citywide record 2,948 cases. A total of 16,135 transmissions were confirmed nationwide.

The total number of infections since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1,958,719.

Out of the new cases, 10,889 were detected in the community and 69 were imported and quarantined upon arrival.

The other transmissions were found in Khánh Hòa (772), Bình Định (702), HCM City (696), Bình Phước (641), Đà Nẵng (592), Cà Mau (535), Hải Phòng (525), Bến Tre (499), Tây Ninh (473), Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu (400), Trà Vinh (399), Vĩnh Long (395), Bắc Ninh (375), Thanh Hóa (354), Quảng Ninh (319), Thừa Thiên Huế (270), Hưng Yên (270), Quảng Ngãi (253), Lâm Đồng (248), Hải Dương (245), Nam Định (227), Bạc Liêu (210), Quảng Nam (208), Vĩnh Phúc (198), Thái Nguyên (186), Hậu Giang (182), Hà Giang (182), Hòa Bình (171), Bắc Giang (163), Cần Thơ (161), Bình Thuận (134), Nghệ An (133), Đồng Tháp (133), Kiên Giang (125), Đắk Nông (120), Ninh Bình (114), An Giang (108), Sơn La (106), Phú Thọ (105), Thái Bình (103), Quảng Bình (100), Tuyên Quang (99), Đồng Nai (93), Sóc Trăng (89), Hà Nam (85), Lào Cai (80), Quảng Trị (68), Điện Biên (66), Yên Bái (60), Gia Lai (59), Bắc Kạn (56), Long An (40), Ninh Thuận (40), Lai Châu (38), Bình Dương (34), Cao Bằng (28), Tiền Giang (27), Phú Yên (23) and Đắk Lắk (1).

So far, Việt Nam has recorded 35 cases of the Omicron variant, all of which were imported cases and quarantined upon arrival.

A further 177 COVID-related deaths were announced, taking the death toll to 34,964 since the start of the pandemic.

The fatalities were registered in HCM City (18), Hà Nội (13), Bình Phước (13), Long An (13), Tiền Giang (13), Bến Tre (11 ca trong 02 ngày), Kiên Giang (11), Trà Vinh (9), Đồng Nai (9), Vĩnh Long (7), Cần Thơ (7), Bình Định (6), Bình Dương (6), Khánh Hòa (5), Bạc Liêu (5), Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu (4), Cà Mau (4), Đắk Lắk (3), Bình Thuận (3), Quảng Ngãi (3), Phú Thọ (2), Hải Phòng (2), Bắc Giang (2), Tây Ninh (2), Vĩnh Phúc (1), Bắc Ninh (1), Huế (1), Hải Dương (1), Hà Giang (1) and Hậu Giang (1).

A further 38,943 recoveries were reported, taking the total number of patients given the all-clear to more than 1,635,899.

There are currently 6,032 patients being treated in healthcare facilities, with 19 on life support.

More than 163.5 million vaccine doses have been administered to date, with just over 71.5 million people being vaccinated with two doses and 13.6 million people injected with third doses. — VNS
