Ministry of Health reports 73,934 additional coronavirus infections in Vietnam

The Ministry of Health registered 73,934 more COVID-19 infections in Vietnam on Friday, along with 6,417 recoveries and 23 virus-related deaths.

The newest cases, all local transmissions, were detected in 61 provinces and cities, the health ministry said in a daily update.

Nghe An Province reported 54,723 of the latest domestic cases, including 53,858 added from previous days; Hanoi 1,425; Phu Tho Province 1,094; Quang Ninh Province 887; Ho Chi Minh City 743; Hai Duong Province 610; Quang Binh Province 532; Bac Ninh Province 506; Lam Dong Province 302; Quang Nam Province 226; Da Nang 190; Binh Duong Province 147; Hai Phong City 106; Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 106; Khanh Hoa Province 61; and Can Tho City 14.

The Ministry of Health logged 23,012 infections on Thursday.

Vietnam has confirmed 10,386,786 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Above 8.86 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Hanoi tops the list with 1,531,246 patients, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 605,596, Nghe An Province 420,517, Binh Duong Province with 382,453, Hai Duong Province 356,399, Bac Ninh Province 336,405, Ca Mau Province 149,267, Tay Ninh Province with 135,971, Hai Phong City 119,024, Binh Phuoc Province 116,477, Dong Nai Province with 106,558, Da Nang with 99,998, and Can Tho City with 49,358.

Vietnam documented only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry announced 6,417 recovered patients on Friday, taking the national count to 8,863,044.

The toll has increased to 42,924, with 23 pathogen-associated mortalities added today.

Vietnam has recorded 10,394,533 cases in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have given upwards of 209 million vaccine doses, including 134,082 shots on Thursday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Over 191.8 million doses have been administered to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 71,405,925 first shots, 68,519,396 second doses, 15,055,572 additional primary jabs, and 35,383,007 boosters.

A combined 17,231,788 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,825,148 first doses and 8,406,640 second jabs.
