Health ministry records 12,170 more virus cases, 114 fatalities in Vietnam

The Ministry of Health documented 12,170 additional COVID-19 infections in Vietnam on Saturday, together with 3,457 recoveries and 114 virus-related mortalities.

The newest cases, including 10 imported and 12,160 domestic transmissions, were confirmed in 58 provinces and cities, the health ministry said, adding that 7,235 were infected in the community.

Hanoi reported 2,778 of the latest local cases, Da Nang 783, Quang Nam Province 735, Nam Dinh Province 541, Hai Duong Province 478, Hoa Binh Province 395, Hai Phong City 362, Thai Binh Province 298, Lam Dong Province 230, Hung Yen Province 207, Gia Lai Province 121, Thua Thien-Hue Province 118, Quang Ninh Province 105, Quang Tri Province 88, Khanh Hoa Province 49, Bac Lieu Province 39, Cao Bang Province 31, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 25, and Ho Chi Minh City 24.

Vietnam had found 11,586 locally-transmitted infections on Friday.

The country has logged 2,320,762 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Above 2.1 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Ho Chi Minh City has been hit the hardest with 514,414 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 292,744, Hanoi with 145,413, Dong Nai Province with 99,938, Tay Ninh Province with 88,493, Ca Mau Province 56,346, Dong Thap Province with 47,449, Binh Phuoc Province 46,809, Can Tho City with 44,404, Vinh Long Province 44,183, Long An Province with 41,717, Da Nang with 36,389, An Giang Province with 35,570, Tien Giang Province with 35,341, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 30,988, and Binh Thuan Province with 29,436.

Vietnam recorded only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry registered 3,457 recoveries on Saturday, raising the national count to 2,105,913.

The toll has spiked to 38,261, with 114 virus-linked deaths announced today.

Vietnam has detected 2,327,859 patients in total, including 192 imported and community-based Omicron infections, since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

The Omicron cases consist of 92 in Ho Chi Minh City, 27 in Quang Nam Province, 20 in Quang Ninh Province, 14 in Hanoi, 11 in Khanh Hoa Province, eight in Da Nang, six in Hung Yen Province, four in Kien Giang Province, two in Thanh Hoa Province, two in Hai Duong Province, one in Hai Phong City, one in Long An Province, one in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, one in Binh Duong Province, one in Lam Dong Province, and one in Ninh Binh Province.

Healthcare workers have given more than 182 million vaccine doses, including 14,218 shots on Friday, since vaccination was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Over 79 million of the country’s 98 million people have received at least one dose while more than 74.2 million have been jabbed twice.

The number of third doses – including additional primary shots for immunocompromised people, boosters, and third jabs of Cuba’s Abdala vaccine has reached 28,805,374.
