A runway and some taxiways at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi have been temporarily shuttered from 7:00 am on Friday for maintenance.
The shutdown of the 11L/29R runway and the S1, S2, S7 taxiways is expected to last until 6:59 am February 23 under the second phase of an upgrade project for the airport.
The project, invested by the Ministry of Transport with total capital of VND2,031 billion (US$88.9 million) from the state budget, started on June 29, 2020.
The 11L/29R runway and the S1, S2, S7 taxiways were brought back to operation on January 27 as their renovation had reached completion.
Indication lights and other flight management facilities on those runway and taxiways must be inspected for their reliability after 20-25 days of operation, according to Dang Hung Thai, director of the project.
Noi Bai International Airport has been chronically overloaded since 2017, when it began receiving new-generation aircraft with huge loads, which have degraded their runways and taxiways.
