COVID-19 cases surpass 1.6 million on Thursday, Hà Nội registers record number of infections

HÀ NỘI — The total number of coronavirus cases in the country since the start of the pandemic has surpassed 1.6 million, with 16,377 new infections detected on Thursday.

It was fourth consecutive day that Hà Nội registered the largest number of transmissions nationwide with 1,774, the highest number for the city in a single update.

The capital has now registered a city-wide record number of infections in seven of the last 10 days.

Among the new cases across the country, 10,152 were detected in the community, with 10 imported and quarantined upon arrival.

Cà Mau and Tây Ninh followed Hà Nội, with 1,167 and 949 infections respectively.

Other cases were found in Vĩnh Long (855), Khánh Hòa (797), Cần Thơ (792), Hồ Chí Minh City (787), Đồng Tháp (787), Bạc Liêu (689), Bình Định (555), Trà Vinh (527), Bến Tre (436), Thừa Thiên-Huế (395), Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu (344), An Giang (322), Thanh Hóa (306), Sóc Trăng (296), Bình Thuận (288), Tiền Giang (282), Hưng Yên (267), Kiên Giang (256), Hải Phòng (252), Lâm Đồng (251), Đồng Nai (232), Bắc Ninh (226), Hậu Giang (221), Đà Nẵng (195), Gia Lai (182), Quảng Ninh (156), Nghệ An (148), Phú Yên (134), Quảng Ngãi (132), Bình Dương (118), Hà Giang (107), Quảng Nam (96), Đắk Lắk (91), Quảng Trị (83), Nam Định (83), Thái Nguyên (61), Ninh Thuận (61), Long An (60), Hải Dương (59), Đắk Nông (55), Phú Thọ (51), Vĩnh Phúc (46), Cao Bằng (44), Hà Nam (42), Thái Bình (39), Quảng Bình (37), Lạng Sơn (37), Bắc Giang (34), Hòa Bình (34), Bình Phước (31), Hà Tĩnh (28), Lào Cai (18), Yên Bái (16), Kon Tum (12), Sơn La (9), Tuyên Quang (5), Bắc Kạn (4), Lai Châu (3), and Điện Biên (3).

Việt Nam’s total COVID death toll now stands at 30,531.

A total of 10,944 recoveries were reported, taking the total number of patients given the all-clear nationwide to more than 1,184,428.

There are currently 7,493 people in the county being treated in healthcare facilities with the virus, including 18 on life support.

More than 142.3 million vaccine doses have been administered in the country to date, with just over 64.1 million people being fully vaccinated.— VNS
