TÂY NINH – The 3rd Trảng Bàng – Bánh Tráng Phơi Sương (dew-soaked rice crepe) Festival will take place in Tây Ninh Province’s Trảng Bàng District on December 24 to celebrate the Christmas and New Year season.
The event will introduce traditional dishes made from rice originating from Tây Ninh, such as bánh tráng phơi sương and bánh canh (rice noodle soup cooked in southern style), both served with fish sauce.
Bánh xèo (rice crepe stuffed with shrimp, pork and bean sprouts), a popular dish of southern people, will also be included.
The festival will also include stalls of different types of Vietnamese vegetables and herbs, including trâm ổi (Lantana camara) and trâm sắn (Syzygium cinereum), which are used in bánh tráng phơi sương.
Local arts and crafts will also be displayed at the event.
Visitors will be entertained with dozens of traditional musical performances and folk dances staged by professional art troupes and amateur art clubs in the region.
Local authorities have worked with tourist agencies in the region to offer new tours to handicraft villages and famous destinations in Tây Ninh, including Bà Đen Mountain, Cao Đài Great Temple and the Vàm Cỏ Đông River.
The organiser, Tây Ninh’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the festival will introduce the province’s traditional culture and lifestyle.
“We also hope to help local authorities find new opportunities to develop tourist services,” said Hà Minh Dảo, deputy chairman of Trảng Bàng District People’s Committee, a member of the organising board.
Last year, the festival attracted more than 10,000 local and foreign visitors.
This year festival will close on New Year’s Day. — VNS
